Information we collect

Account details: name and email (required to sign in); mobile/WhatsApp numbers for booking and hosting.
Profile data: optional photo; gender, age range, and occupation for booking readiness; languages, home city, and travel preferences.
Trip data: routes, bookings, messages, seat assignments, ratings/reports, and vehicle details for hosts.
Host verification: driving licence, RC, and PUC photos or files you upload — reviewed by ShareMiles staff only.
Location: GPS only when a Host enables live tracking during an active trip (en route until complete), shared with travelers on that trip.
Camera & files: only when you take or choose a photo/file for a profile picture or verification document — not background camera access and not bulk photo-library access.
Notifications: Android FCM token or web push subscription (with your permission) for booking, trip, message, and match alerts.
Device data: app/browser version, IP, diagnostics, and first-party product analytics. Google libraries on Android may process an advertising ID; we do not sell data to ad networks.

How we use your information

To match Hosts and travelers and display relevant intercity routes.
To process bookings, send trip updates, and enable communication between matched travelers.
To verify identities, prevent fraud, and maintain community safety.
To show live trip progress to travelers on the same trip when the Host enables tracking.
To send permission-based push notifications and transactional emails about your trips.
To improve recommendations, contribution transparency, and product reliability.

Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal information.
Listing and travel basics may be visible when you browse or share trips; verified contact unlocks after a seat request is confirmed.
Live location is shared with travelers on that trip only while tracking is active.
We use cloud hosting, Resend email, optional SMS, Firebase/web push, maps/routing (OSM/OSRM), and object storage under contractual safeguards.
We may disclose information when required by Indian law or to protect user and public safety.

Device permissions (Android & web)

Internet — required to use the Service (Android).
Location — explained in-app, then requested when starting trip tracking; used only during an active trip for travelers on that trip.
Foreground location service — continues sharing during an active trip with a system notification (Android).
Notifications — explained after sign-in, then the system/browser prompt; used for bookings, trip status, messages, and relevant matches.
Camera — explained in-app before Take photo for profile or verification documents.
Photos / files — explained in-app before choosing an existing photo or PDF; we receive only the item you select.
Web geolocation, Web Push, and file/capture APIs follow the same purposes with browser permission prompts.

Cookies and on-device storage

Auth cookies/session tokens keep you signed in.
A first-party analytics session cookie helps us improve the product (not sold to advertisers).
Local drafts and recent searches stay on your device.

Data retention and security

We retain account and trip records while your account is active and as needed for legal, tax, and dispute resolution.
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) with industry-standard practices. Access is restricted to authorized personnel.
You may request account deletion by contacting us; some records may be retained where required by law.

Your rights

You may request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data subject to applicable law and ongoing trip obligations.
You can update profile details and revoke location, camera, or notification permissions in device or browser settings.
